GENRES AND SUB-GENRES:

Film Genres:
Film genres are the types of flms that are available to us. There are so many genres available and they are al very different although there are many films that incorporate more than one genre.

An example of a film genre would be a comedy. Comedy is a genre of film. It is aimed to make people laugh and enjoy the film and usually ends on a positive note. A film that is seen to be a comedy is a film like 'Cheaper by the dozen'. It is also a family film, but above all it makes the audience laugh.

Another film genre would be horror films. The 'Saw' franchise are all horror movies as they are quite gruesome and horrific to see. Horror movies are aimed at perhaps an older public and is aimed to scare people and will play with the audiences primal fears. A common horror movie theme would be the supernatural theme. It scares people and makes the quite weary which is the aim of the movie.

Film Sub-Genres:

A film sub-genre is a type of movie that is under a genre of movie. An example would be triller sub-genres. There are various thriller sub-genres such as: pyscological thrillers, comedy thrillers and action trillers. The reason why they are seen as sub-genres is because they include elements from both types of movies. In an action triller, the film would be scary, however it will be a film filled with action.

I find pyscological thrillers quite interesting and I think that it would be a good option to base our thriller opening on. I think excellent deas could generate from that sub-genre and we will able to make a very interesting thriller opening if we stick to that sub-genre.
